By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A local canoeist who recently participated in a
Singapore kayak race wished to thank the police there for help after
some of his personal belongings including cash were lost during a
practice session.
Even though the lost items are yet to
be recovered, he was impressed with the Singapore police who helped
him during the ordeal.
"They did their best in trying to
find the thief and recover my personal belongings. They even said they
will contact me in Brunei Darussalam if they manage to nab the
culprits," he said.
He said he lost two mobile phones,
some cash and a camera amounting to $3,000. He also lost his wallet
containing his credit cards and driving licence.
"Other competitors and officers were
normally stationed at our camp. However, they went away for a few
moments. And when I returned from practice, I could not find my
belongings anymore," he said.
He pinned his hope that the culprit
would be nabbed later by the Singapore police.
The victim participated in the
Singapore National Canoeing Championship 2005with three other
canoeists to gauge their performance for the upcoming SEA Games in the
Philippines.
The event was participated by members
of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
A total of 16 events were contested
in the championship - open men and women in 1000m, 500m, 200m and
10,000m. Brunei kayakers have dominated the sporting event in the
region. --
