By Huraizah Ahmad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A group of special trainees from the Pusat Ehsan
Mentalink Unit Sheltered Workshop are currently undergoing on-the-job
training at the Tabung Amanah Pekerja (TAP) under. the Ministry of
Finance.
According to Pusat Ehsan Programme
Coordinator Simon Rajendran, the trainees were invited by TAP
Management to complete manual tasks following technical faults from
the automated machines.
The trainees - who have been posted
on the job assignment since Wednesday - are experiencing their first
of such on-site job' opportunities.
Although initially faced with several
obstacles - such as getting the trainees to adapt to the new
environment - the group has since become even more efficient. The
groups of over 12 trainees were involved in tasks that included
folding, inserting and sealing statements into envelopes from 8.30am
to 3.30pm.
The progress and speed of trainees
were recorded by accompanying Pusat Ehsan trainers. The trainees have
advanced from completing 3,000 statements a day to 7,500 a day.
"The group has shown tremendous
effort and great performance skill in their daily task - which is as
good as any other employee in productivity quantity," said Simon
Rajendran.
Pusat
Ehsan extended its appreciation to Tabung Amanah Pekerja (TAP) for
giving the special trainees an opportunity to prove themselves, while
at the same time experiencing on-site training and being paid for a
job well done.
Government agencies or any other
non-government agencies can also come forward to create equal job
opportunities for the differently-abled adults in the community by
