Brunei Gears Up For Chinese Cars
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The first Chinese pick-up truck and two sports
utility vehicles (SUVs) will soon make their debut on Brunei roads,
setting the stage for more competition in the already competitive
local auto industry.
In fact, Brunei is the first overseas
market for the Dadi automobiles, which are expected to be launched
here in November this year after Hari Raya.
PAD Motors Sdn Bhd has signed a
distributorship agreement to sell the Dadi Trekker Twin Cab 4X4 pick
up, Tourer 4X4 SUV and Shuttle 4X4 SUV in the Sultanate.
The official signing ceremony for the
distributorship of Dadi automobiles in Brunei took place yesterday at
Sheraton Utama Hotel. The parties involved are PAD Motors Sdn Bhd, the
official distributor in Brunei, and Malaysia's Premium Paramount
International Automobile (PPIA) Sdn Bhd, the overseas distributor of
Dadi, as well as LM Star Auto World Sdn Bhd, the assembler and
manufacturer of Dadi.
These 2.4-litre petrol models will
come with a host of amenities and safety features, plus a three-year
free service and warranty package. The official signing ceremony is
set to further boost the economic ties between Brunei and Malaysia.
PAD Motors said this is a critical
move with regard to its future and will essentially redesign the
landscape of its automotive business. Its Director, Mr Philip Tan Kah
Boon said the company plans to sell 50 units a month at below $30,000.
Dadi is "a Malaysian product with China brand with low price and high
quality", he said.
Dato
Fauziah Hj Alias from Premium Paramount International Automobile
SdnBhd said the signing ceremony for the distributorship in Brunei is
the first step in seeing Dadi emerge as a marque to be reckoned with
in the region.
Hj
Abdullah @ Abd Uzza Shikh Mohamed from LM Star Auto World Sdn Bhd.
said it is a testament to the quality of Dadi vehicles that the range
is set to gain a foothold in the highly competitive Asean region.
The signing will set in motion yet
another economic relationship between Brunei and Malaysia and will be
a stimulant to better bilateral trade between the two countries. Some
48,000 units are also expected to be sold in 26 countries in the
Middle East. --
