Lure Of Brunei $$ Too Hard To Resist
By M K Anwar

Bandar Seri Begawan - Caught three times, sent to jail for immigration offences and even blacklisted from entering Brunei failed to deter a woman from Indonesia from entering Brunei again.

She was again caught yesterday morning at a food stall in Kg Mulaut, and this time under a new identity.

Immigration Enforcement personnel apprehended Juanik bte Saeru, 40, during "Ops Basmi 77" that targeted 25 business premises located in Mukim Sengkurong, Mukim Gadong and Mukim Berakas.

Juanik was found working in the kitchen at a food stall when the officers arrived for inspection. Officers found she had entered Brunei under a visit pass and under the name Rosnani bte Malik last Saturday.

She was swiftly identified as she is in the Immigration records for her continuous offences.

She had already served a prison sentence in 2003 and upon her release was repatriated to her country. She will be facing charges under Chapter 36 of the Immigration Act for entering the country after being repatriated and also under Chapter 12 (1) (c) for impersonation.

Four other foreigners from Malaysia and Indonesia were also found to have misused their visit passes to work in the country. Another four foreign workers from India and Indonesia, meanwhile, were found to have been working with different employers other than the one stated in their work pass. They could face charges under Chapter 15 (2) of the Immigration Act.

Their employers will also face charges under the amended Chapter 55 (1) (e) of the Immigration Act for employing immigration offenders, which carries a jail sentence for a period not more than two years, fine not less than $3,000 but not more than $6,000 or even both for each immigration offenders that they have employed or harboured.

The latest operation was led by Acting Chief Immigration Officer, Hamdani Hj Abd Hamid, involving 15 other personnel. Sixteen special passes were also issued to foreign workers while two summon letters were issued to employers. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
