SCB wins Brunei Bank of the Year
2005 Award
At A reception at The Dorchester
Hotel, London, Standard Chartered Bank, Brunei, was awarded the Bank
of the Year Country Award for 2005 by The Banker, a leading industry
magazine which is part of the Financial Times Group, London.
Representing SCB to receive the Bank
of the Year 2005, Brunei at the event was Tiew Siew Chuen, Deputy Head
of Consumer Banking.
Several criteria are used by the
Banker to choose the Bank of the Year in each country.
The award is given to that bank in
each country that demonstrates best growth and performance in terms of
tier one capital, assets and return on equity.
Further, the winning bank must
demonstrate how the use of technology is helping them advance in their
market position and show how their banking structure and strategy will
equip them for future developments in their market.
Over the past year, SCB has
successfully demonstrated a strong commitment to lead the way with the
introduction of many banking firsts - the first co-brand department
store credit card, the first and only bank to offer interest-free
installment plans on credit card purchases and the first to introduce
mobile top ups in the bank's ATMs nationwide.
Making customer-centric initiatives
their top priorities, the bank installed Cash Deposit Machines and
introduced the eStatement service to provide greater convenience to
customers.
"It is of great honour for us at SCB,
Brunei, to receive The Banker Award 2005. Having been around globally
for more than 150 years and locally for nearly 50 years, this
prestigious accolade is truly a reflection of the outstanding growth
and performance that the bank has promised to deliver," said Ms
Shalini Warrier, Chief Executive Officer, SCB.
"Winning The Banker Award for Brunei
this year recognises our leadership in product and service innovation,
as well as our passion for service excellence," she added.
