SEAMEO Chief Calls On Education

Begawan - The Minister of Education and Training of the
Republic of Vietnam, Prof Dr Nguyen Minh Hien, in his capacity as the
President of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO)
Council is in the country for a two-day official visit.
The Vietnamese minister paid a
courtesy call on the Minister of Education, Pehin Dato Haji Awang
Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohammad Taib, at his office in
Berakas. They discussed issues on education and training of regional
and bilateral interests during the meeting.
The minister is also scheduled to
visit SEAMEO Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education in
Gadong, where he will be briefed on the centre's activities and
projects.
This is the minister's second visit
to Brunei Darussalam. The SEAMEO Council's President is currently on a
working visit to all SEAMEO member countries, which comprise Brunei
Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Southeast Asian Ministers of
Education Organisation established in 1965 is a regional
intergovernmental organisation. Its objective is to promote regional
cooperation among Southeast Asian nations in the areas of education,
science, culture and information technology.
Brunei Darussalam was officially
proclaimed a SEAMEO member on 16th February 1984. The Ministry of
Education is the lead agency for SEAMEO in Brunei Darussalam. --
