10 Arrested Over Car, Cable Thefts

Begawan - Ten local men aged between 23 and 36 have been
arrested following several operations that were carried out since
September 4 this year by the CID Section, Brunei Police District
related to car and cable thefts.
Those arrested were believed to be
involved in car and cable theft cases in Gadong, Sengkurong and
Berakas.
The 10 then who have been arrested
were believed to have been involved in 19 theft cases that have been
reported to the BSB Central Police Station.
The CID Section, Brunei Police
District have so far managed to locate six cars and public property in
the form of cables, sub-station doors and sub-station pillar feeder
doors which have been reported missing. Also confiscated during the
operations were vehicles that were used by the thieves.
The thefts were carried out by
cutting the cables or by unbolting, screws holding the cables or
doors.
The stolen items were then brought to
factories or scrap metal shops to be sold using stolen or private
vehicles with fake registration numbers.
The police are encouraging members of
the public to report any criminal activities such as these to any of
the police stations in the country.
The police reminded factories or
scrap metal shops that any parties who are found to have accepted or
in possession of stolen goods could be charged under Section 411 and
413 of the Penal Code. Hence, the police advised the related parties
to strengthen their rules and procedures for accepting items. --
