By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The eagerly-awaited Brunei Grand Sale (BGS) is back,
promising customers discounted prices on a wide range of products from
20 per cent and above.
|
The BGS begins Friday (Sept. 23) and
will end after the first week of Hari Raya (Nov. 13) As a prelude
to the actual BGS, a month of pre-BGS special textile sale has
been going on since August 22. More than 60 outlets are currently
participating.
They will continue to participate
during the BGS 2005 season. To date, 342 shops, supermarkets and
department stores have registered for the 52-day BGS 2005.
For a participating departmental
store, a minimum of 40 per cent of its entire stock has to be
offered for sale, said Deputy Director-General of the Department
of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE), Hj Razali Md. Yussof,
yesterday.
Participating shops will have to
offer discounted prices of no less than 10 per cent of its entire
stock. Supermarkets are encouraged to offer discounted prices on

JPKE is organising the annual
project, the 11th of its kind, with the theme "Bargain prices to
boost sales and hence, economic growth".
In conjunction with the launching
of BGS, a "Local Products Fair" will also be launched at Hua Ho
Manggis, Jln Muara involving 40 local entrepreneurs.
JPKE continues to receive
cooperation from all department stores, supermarkets and shops
throughout the country to make this annual event a success. |
Participating shops, supermarkets and
department stores will also hold special promotions throughout the
sale period.
"We hope BGS will contribute to
enhancing economic activities in the country. The attractive sales and
promotions are expected to encourage citizens and residents to shop
locally, thus reducing the outflow of our money.
"BGS is intended to encourage the
public, in particular our citizens and residents, to spend locally. It
provides the opportunity for the public to shop at discounted prices.
"It also encourages competitive
pricing of goods and attempts to attract tourists to shop in Brunei,"
Hj Razali said.
BGS 2005 participants are required to
display the BGS banner at their business premises.
BGS participation certificates issued
by JPKE should be displayed conspicuously for the benefit of the
shoppers to identify BGS 2005 participants.
Shops, supermarkets and departmental
stores that do not display the BGS participation certificates will be
considered non-BGS participants and the public is advised to report to
JPKE when they encounter such an incident.
All items on sale will have two price
tags showing -the price before and after discount. All departmental
stores are encouraged to offer special sales or promotions such as
lucky draws, crazy sales, happy hour sales and others throughout the
BGS period, particularly during the weekends to attract shoppers.
The public is encouraged to support
BGS 2005 to stimulate and promote the sale. However, the public has
also been advised to spend wisely, buy necessities and to check the
prices carefully before making a purchase.
For any credible complaints with
respect to BGS 2005, customers can call the hotline 2230223 at JPKE
