By Helena M. Mahathir

Bandar Seri Begawan - More than 60 members of Universiti Brunei Darussalam's-(UBD) "Kelab Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya", or Peer Support Group, are currently attending a two-day course, which began yesterday.

Present as the guest of honour during the opening ceremony was UBD's Dean of Students Dr Ampuan Hj Brahim bin Ampuan Hj Tengah, on behalf of the acting assistant vice chancellor of UBD.

Also in attendance at the event were officers and undergraduates of the university. The guest of honour, during his speech, highlighted the importance of the role of members of Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya (PRS), which included being a positive influence on fellow teenagers, especially amid the challenges faced by youths today.

The PRS Club aims to train the youth in counselling skills to enable them to help out their peers who are facing problems.

The course, jointly organised by the Counselling Services Unit, Student Affairs Section and PRS Club, will give emphasis on interpersonal communication and helping skills.

Under the facilitation of Hjh Suhaina, the course also aims at enhancing participants' leadership skills, patience and courtesy abilities. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
