Deputy Sultan Visits Defence

Billah, the Deputy Sultan, yesterday morning made a working visit to
the Directorate of Administration and Manpower at the Ministry of
Defence.
On arrival at the Ministry of Defence,
the Deputy Sultan was welcomed by the Acting Minister of Defence,
Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Retired) Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yasmin
bin Haji Umar, Acting Royal Brunei Armed Forces Commander, Colonel (U)
Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud bin Haj i Saidin, the Permanent Secretary at
the Ministry of Defence, Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat and Deputy
Permanent Secretaries of the ministry.
Also present throughout the visit was
Dato Paduka Awang Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Ismail, Permanent Secretary
at the Prime Minister's Office.
The visit began with a briefing
presented by the Acting Director of the Directorate of Administration
and Manpower, Awang Haji Mohd Shahminan bin Haji Abd Hamid on the
organisational structure, roles and functions of the Directorate.
At the end of the briefing, the
Deputy Sultan raised several issues relating to privatisation plans at
the Ministry of Defence and disciplinary problems faced by the
Personnel Board of the Ministry Secretariat. The Deputy Sultan was
briefed by the Acting Director of the Directorate Administration and
Manpower on the efforts undertaken to address these issues.
The Deputy Sultan was then taken on a
guided tour of the various sections of the Directorate and the
facilities available while being briefed on the roles and functions of
the respective sections.
The working visit to the Directorate
has shown the Deputy Sultan's concerns on the implementation of the
Directorate's roles and functions pertaining to the management of
human resources in support of the ministry's vision.
Yesterday's visit also acted as a
catalyst in encouraging government servants including the military and
civilian personnel of the ministry to discharge their duties and
responsibilities with more commitment, dedication and efficiency.
