Bandar Seri Begawan - A 28-year-old Indian national was sentenced to two months' imprisonment by the Bandar Magistrate's Court after he pleaded guilty to having a forged Immigration pass endorsed on his passport.

The defendant, Selvam Kalimuthu, admitted to having the said pass on page 13 of his passport dated March 28, 2005, which is an offence under: section 55(l)(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17.

The Immigration prosecutor said the defendant came to the Enforcement Section on June 27 this year and produced his Indian passport to the investigation officer.

The investigating officer upon checking his passport found that the defendant's social visit pass endorsed on page 13 was not in order.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant admitted that before the expiry of his genuine social visit pass on March 21, this year, he gave his passport to a man' named Kuthbudeen, who then passed it to another person named Ameed.

The defendant admitted that he had never met Ameed and the arrangements for his passport were made through Kuthbudeen. The defendant also gave Ameed a sum of $150 to pay for the extension of the said pass. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
