Fish Bombing Destroys Environment
By Jon Tampoi & Achong Tanjong

Bandar Seri Begawan - Catching fish with explosive items is illegal. Importing such fish is also against the law.

And law enforcement agencies will enforce this regulation to protect the environment.

This was highlighted by Acting Director of Fisheries Dayang Hajah Hasnah Ibrahim in her welcoming remarks at the official opening of a five-day course on fish caught using explosive items.

She said that catching fish using explosives could destroy the maritime environment and create "bad impact" on marine resources.

Such activity happened in many places including in Brunei Darussalam and must be stopped from spreading, she said.

The course, organised by Fisheries Department, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, is being held from September 19-23 and conducted by two lecturers from Bureau of Fisheries from the Philippines. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
