50 Booths For Trade And Tourism
Expo

Begawan - Some 50 booths representing 70 local and
international exhibitors are set to showcase their products and
services at The Mall, Gadong commencing today (Sept. 19) until Sept.
23 in their bid to widen their trade networks.
The BIMP-EAGA Trade and Tourism Expo
will have its official opening ceremony at 2.30 pm today.
Supported and endorsed by the
Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, the event is expected to
be attended by some 500 of the region's trade and business leaders
from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and other countries.
Another event which will be held side
by side with the trade expo, the East Asean Business Summit, is also
set to commence today and ends tomorrow at the same venue.
Minister of Education, Pehin Dato Hj
Abdul Rahman, will be delivering a keynote address as well as
officiate the official opening of the 2005 BIMP-EAGA Trade and Tourism
Expo and East Asean Business Summit.
Some five sessions will be featured
at the business summit including keynote addresses by Jesus G Dureza,
Presidential Assistant for Mindanao and Mindanao Economic Development
Council (MEDCo) chairman; Aburizal Bakrie, Indonesian Coordinating
Minister for Economy; Clare Martin,
Chief Minister of the Northern Territory of Australia; and Tan Sri
Bernard Dompok, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office of Malaysia.
Meanwhile, organiser Transpower Group
executive chairman Hj Ismail Hj Damit said a buyer and seller session,
live face-to-face interactions towards recognising and realising their
prospective partners in products' supply and demand, will be held on
September 22 at the 41 Floor of The Mall, Gadong.
Amongst prominent exhibitors at the
expo are Brunei's Ministry of Industry and Primary
Resources, MEDCo, the Philippines'
Department of Trade and Industry, Tourism Malaysia and Indonesian
Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs.
The private sector is represented by
various ICT vendors showcasing the latest ICT developments while
Abacus will lead several travel agents offering various holiday
packages while a number of exhibitors from the Middle East have
confirmed their participation.
Sabah
exhibitors will also be occupying several booths to display various
developments in resorts and tourism.
Some of the exhibitors have expressed
their interest in visiting various authorities here like Brunei
Industry Development Authority, and local chambers of commerce and
industry.
Both events, which are held in line
with the BIMP-EAGA-Senior Officials and Ministers Meeting, are seen as
platforms for identifying business opportunities and for discussing
key trade and business issues in the region. --
