BSCF Member Returns Home From Mera
Perak
By Helena M Mahathir
Bandar Seri
Begawan - After his recent attempt to conquer Mera Perak in the
Himalayas, Mohd Kamri Hj Samat, 27, of the Brunei Sports Climbing
Federation (BSCF) safely returned home. He had departed from the
Sultanate at the end of August and spent about two weeks in Nepal.
Mohd
Kamri said that the adventure began after a four-day delay of his
flight from Kathmandu to Lukla caused by bad weather conditions. After
four days of climbing, he managed to reach an altitude of about 5km,
1000m away from the summit.
He waited for another two days but
hearing the advice of his guide, Mohd Kamri did not go on, due to the
rain, smog and strong winds. Those residing on the mountain were also
cautioned to make their way down for safety.
Disappointed but undeterred, Mohd
Kamri hopes to try again in the future, possibly next year.
Those who are interested to climb
Mera Peak are advised to go in April and May, as conditions in June
onwards would make it very risky.
BSCF
currently has over 100 members and its activities mainly focus on
climbing and mountaineering.
