Mukim Seria Gets New Penghulu

Bandar Seri Begawan - The new Penghulu of Mukim Seria, Awg Hj Jamail bin Hj Linap, yesterday morning received his certificate of official appointment during a ceremony held at his residence in STKRJ Lorong Tiga, Selatan Seria.

The chief guest, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Dato Paduka Hj Dani bin Hj Ibrahim, congratulatedAwg Hj Jamail on his official appointment.

Dato Paduka Hj Dani pointed out that it is the hope of the government and Mukim Seria residents that Awg Hj Jamail would carry out every role, task and responsibility - as underlined in the Penghulu and Ketua Kampong Services Scheme 1998 - with full commitment, dedication and patience.

As the Penghulu, Avg Hj Jamail should also show care and attention when handling the needs of the Mukim residents, he added.

He pointed out that the Penghulu could also serve as a development agent, law enforcement agent as well as a negotiator and advisor to the community in any matter to protect the interest, prosperity and safety of the Mukim.

"It is also the responsibility of the Penghulu Mukim to form the spirit of neighbourhood and understanding among different groups, races and religions," the deputy minister said. Meanwhile, he stressed that the Penghulu of Mukim Seria should also conduct visits and make reports on the affairs of the Mukim to the district officer from time to time.

The deputy minister believes that Mukim residents are hoping that with the appointment of Mukim Seria's Penghulu, it could lead to rapid development and progression of the Mukim, particularly the socio-economic.

Without the support from Mukim residents, it will be difficult for the Penghulu to conduct his tasks efficiently, the deputy minister stressed.

Therefore, Mukim residents are encouraged to attend meetings, gatherings and discussions, and be involved in activities carried out by their respective Penghulu and Ketua Kampong.

The deputy minister also highlighted the importance of an effective Mukim and Kampong Consultative Council, where it could assist and bring about more efficiency in the role and tasks of the Penghulu and Ketua Kampong.

In light of this, the deputy minister urged the Penghulu and Ketua Kampong as well as members of the Mukim and Kampong Consultative Council to constantly take initiatives in carrying out activities, which could unite and instil the spirit of `us' among residents.
