Brunei Minister Returns From Singapore Visit

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awg Hj Mohammad Hj Daud and delegates returned yesterday after a working visit to Singapore.

According to a press release from the ministry, the minister made a courtesy call to the Singaporean Minister of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. Both ministers discussed several issues to increase cooperation between the two countries in the fields of community development, youth and sports. Other issues discussed included cooperation of both countries in youth training programmes between Outward Bound Brunei Darussalam and Outward Bound Singapore.

Both ministers also talked about community centre facilities including the process of a welfare aid system such as old folks pension aid as well as preparation for the participation of the SEA Games and Asean Para Games (Disabled Sports Meet) that will take place in the Philippines in November.

Pehin Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri PahlawanAwg Hj Mohammad also made a courtesy call to the Minister of Information, Communication and Arts of Singapore, Dr Lee Boon Yang. At this courtesy call, both ministers discussed cooperation projects which could be organised between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore in the fields of cultural, library and archives services, heritage preservation as well as Asean projects.

During the working visit, the Brunei minister and delegates also had the opportunity to visit the National Youth Council, Singapore Sports School, Asia Civilisation Museum, Esplanade, National Library, Reflections Museum and Malay Heritage Centre. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
