Priority To Locals
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Business confidence is on the ebb again in the
Sultanate as thousands of eager shoppers flocked to the new Hua Ho
Department Store that opened in Manggis yesterday.
"Looking at the current job market
today, I hope that with the creation of shopping centres will at least
help to open up and add more opportunities of employment for the
locals," said Pehin Dato Awg Hj Adanan, Minister of Home Affairs, said
as he cut the ribbon to officially mark the grand opening of the
department store in Kg Sungai Akar, Jalan Muara.
The latest and largest of all Hua Ho
shopping centres in the country is an. indication of the soaring
business confidence in the country.
Among the invited guests were top
government officials including permanent secretaries as well as
foreign envoys and executives from the praping centre is equipped with
many facilities, including underground parking that can accommodate
hundreds of cars.
Pehin
Adanan said, according to latest labour statistics, there are
currently 7,793 registered local job seekers. A growing number of
locals are degree and diploma holders with a variety of skills.
He believed with these qualifications
and skills locals are quite capable and also have the ability to carry
out tasks and responsibilities given to them.
He hoped the private sector,
including shopping centres, financial institutions and banks, IT
businesses, engineering industry, manufacturers, services and others
will give priority to locals and not depend only on foreign workers.
The private sector also has the
responsibility to cut down the number of jobless locals, especially
among youths, and help them contribute towards the national
development besides reducing their family burden and stop them from
turning their focus to unwanted activities.
This will also help the future job
market by reducing job seekers' dependency on the government sector,
he added. --
