Forwarders Urged To Embrace Technology
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandra Seri Begawan - A senior government officer advised members of Brunei Freights Forwarders Association (BRUFA) to embrace technology advancement to speed up their services and contribute to efficient trade flows between Brunei Darussalam and other nations.

Hj Brahim Hj Ismail, the controller of Royal Customs and Excise Department. said the changing scenario of modern trade has increased the need for efficient services. Brunei Darussalam saw a doubling, and in certain cases, trebling of goods movements between the nation and its trading partners.

"The adoption of technology is worth every cent and dollar invested. Therefore make full use of technological advances," he said. He spoke during a certificate presentation ceremony in conjunction with its 5th Annual General Meeting yesterday morning.

Hj Brahim handed out certificates to BRUFA members who took part in the training programme on Customs Valuation and HS Code Classification last July 9 and 11. The guest of honour launched the association's website, a tool for BRUFA members to develop their business.

BRUFA President Lawrence Rathinam, said the association has always emphasised to their members that education and training in various courses will benefit them in developing knowledge and excel in conducting business.

He said BRUFA is planning to conduct more training programmes on the IATA training scheme, various logistics and cargo courses to be conducted by Singapore Logistics Association, and courses on maritime services as proposed by Director of Ports Pg Hj Abdul Rahman. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
