Pregnant Women Caught On The Run
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - An Indonesian woman, illegally residing in the
country and seven months pregnant, is facing possible separation from
her husband after she failed to outrun a team of immigration enforcers
in checks yesterday.
Immigration enforcers, who were
raiding a nearby restaurant, gave chase after she was spotted running
away from a nearby rented room.
The Indonesian woman, Tumiati, 23,
had an expired limited visitor pass since May 15, 2005, and is married
to a Thai construction worker, Kiattisak Sivirat, 26, without
possessing a valid marital certificate.
She was among 14 foreign workers
caught by 13 immigration enforcement personnel during "Ops Basmi 74
12005".
In another case, another pregnant
Indonesian worker with a valid working pass as a maid until July 13
2005, was caught inside a restaurant in Jangsak Gadong, with her
Bruneian husband, a manager of the restaurant.
With only a marital certificate
issued in Indonesia, the case was referred to the religious
department.
She is facing a charge of working
with a different employer. Immigration enforcers raided 12 restaurants
in Kg Bengkurong, Mukirn Pengkalan Batu, Mukim Kilanas and Gadong,
which were found operating without License Rampaian or proper
authorization.
Some 17 people were issued special
passes, 12 brought to the station after failing to show valid
identification and 14 were confirmed to be illegally working or
residing in the country. During the raid, some employers were found to
have taken on workers not under their jurisdiction while some are
still employing foreign workers under visitor pass and thus face legal
proceeding. --
