Students Visit Merimbun Lake

Begawan - Some 20 students of the Sayyidina Umar Al-Khatab
Secondary School participated in the 2nd Outreach Programme organised
by the Brunei Museums Department. This is the second school to be
involved with the scientific studies programme.

Museums Department, Samhan bin Nyawa, who is also manager of the park,
greeted the students upon arrival. Also present were five teachers and
rangers, of the park who acted as guides.
The students were divided into groups
of four. The two-day programme saw the students staying at Purun Hall
just by the hank of Merimbun Lake.
The Merimbun Lake, located in Tutong
district, is an Ascan Heritage Park. It is a living archive of nature,
natural medicine, history, flora and fauna.
For their project, the students
observed the biodiversity of the natural landscape of the Merimbun
Lake basin.
They studied insects, mammals, birds,
fishes and botany. The Merimbun Lake is home to over 50 different
varieties of fresh water fish apart from the crocodile. --
