Local Tech Companies To Join KL Trade Fair

Bandar Seri Begawan - Local companies are set to show the world the competitive edge of their technological products at a two-day trade fair to be held in Kuala Lumpur.

The 61 International Strategic Partnership and Business Networking Trade Fair for Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (Global SMEs 2005), which will run from September 22 to 24, is expected to attract some 10,000 visitors.

Companies from Brunei will be joining their counterparts from 12 other counties including Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Laos, Sri Lanka, the Middle East, South Korea, China, Japan, New Zealand and Taiwan.

It is being organised by the Small and Medium-scale Enterprise International Co-operation Association of Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur Malay Chamber of Commerce and Expomal International Sdn Bhd.

The trade fair will highlight several areas of development for SMEs such as the global market place, financial aspects, investments, entrepreneurship, information and communications technology, solutions for human resources and technology transfer.

"Not only will Global SMEs 2005 help to create an effective platform for SMEs to explore business opportunities, the trade fair will also provide an opportunity for SMEs to acquire information on potential markets and technology," a spokesman for the organisers said.

This year's fair will feature 350 booths, 50 more from last year, where 40 per cent of the booths will be occupied by foreign companies and 10 per cent by local companies.

A side event of the fair, SME ICT Week, will also be held at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur to promote the use of ICT by SMEs that would enhance their competitive edge and make them fully recognised in the global marketplace. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
