Legal Talk For Workers At
Philippine Embassy
By Tony Alabastro
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Brunei's "Workmen's Compensation and Other Legal
Matters Affecting OFWs" will be discussed tomorrow in a Basic
Orientation Course at the Philippine Embassy.
The Philippine Embassy announced
yesterday it has tapped Mr Daljit Singh Sandhu, a noted legal
practitioner, to speak on legal matters affecting Overseas Filipino
Workers (OFWs) in Brunei.
This is a continuation of the
fiveSunday Basic Orientation Course, which runs from Ipm to 5pm at the
Embassy's Chancery.
Last Sunday, Dr Colin David Reynolds
spoke on the common illnesses afflicting OFWs in Brunei Darussalam and
how to avoid them.
Filipino workers here have the
highest incidence of high blood pressure among the other
nationalities, he said.
Hypertension among OFWs is followed
by diabetes, tuberculosis, and hepatitis B, said Dr Reynolds, a
resident physician at the Riverview Clinic.
Filipino workers should heave their
blood pressure taken regularly, he said. Once a person with high blood
pressure has started taking medicine, he should take them everyday
without fail.
Philippine Ambassador Virginia H.
Benavidez encourages OFWs to attend the course to upgrade their
knowledge and familiarity with the rules and regulations, their rights
and privileges and services accorded to them while working in Brunei
Darussalam.
OFWs
interested, to attend the Orientation Course may call the Philippine
Embassy at 223-6981, 223-7052 and 223-7053. --
