Don't Be Taken For A Ride, Pay No Attention To Scam Mails
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - If it's too good to be true, it probably is. Locals are advised to ignore letters or e-mails that claim that they have won a big prize in an international lottery.

Recipients are told that they have been selected for a payment of more than half a million euros in a Spanish lottery.

However, the letters and e-mails, which encourage recipients to call an international number to claim the prize, are in fact just scams, said observers.

The notifications claim that the "winners" are picked through a computerised ballot system drawn from 25,000 names from Asia, Australia, Middle East, New Zealand, Europe and North America.

"These are elements of `identity theft' where scammers would try to obtain your bank account details," they said. "If you receive these mails, it is important that you ignore them!" -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
