Family Of Five Caught Overstaying

Bandar Seri Begawan - In what was a unique case officers from the Immigration Enforcement Unit stumbled upon, a family of five, including three children aged 10, eight and three, was found to have violated the Immigration Act, while the youngest of the three children did not have a passport.

A routine Immigration operation along Jalan Tutong led officers to a house in Kg Jangsak, where the Filipino family was residing. ,

At a car park in Jalan Tutong, Immigration personnel came across the parents ofthe three children Wednesday afternoon. Following their detention it came to light that the couple has three children, which led the officers to the house in Kg Jangsak yesterday.

The parents were found with visit passes that expired last year. The oldest of the three children holds a travel document with a visit pass that had expired in July 2004 and hence has been overstaying in the country for more than a year.

Her little brother, aged eight, also holds a visit pass that had expired more than a year ago. The youngest of the three children, aged three, has been without a passport or other supporting immigration documents since birth. It is an offence under Chapter 15 (1) of the Immigration Act to overstay in the country.

The inspections at the two premises were led by Senior Immigration Officer, Pg Jamaludin bin Pg Hj Hidop, and 11 other officers. Two special passes were also issued to two other Filipino workers for further investigations.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
