By Achong Tanjong

Members of the organising committee receive items of sponsorship for
the Muhibah Walkathon at the Boustead Showroom in Gadong yesterday.

Persatuan Warganegara Malaysia (PWM), with close collaboration from the Malaysia High Commission in Brunei will hold the Muhibah Walkathon on Sunday September 18, to take place at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

The Muhibah Walkathon - the first to be organised - commemorates Malaysia's 48th National Day, and is open to all. The 5 km-long walkathon will start and end at the stadium, and is expected to be flagged-off by the Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Dato' Ali Abdullah.

The PWM president, Simon D. Gelan, said the main objectives of the event are to promote a healthy lifestyle while fostering better relations between Malaysians and the local community. "We are anticipating a crowd of more than 300 people from all walks of life to participate at the walkathon," he said.

Prospective participants will be required to pay a nominal fee of $1 per person when registering, and in return will be provided with drinks and entry to the lucky draw. 30 prizes include electrical items will be on offer in the lucky draw.

Recently, PWM organised Muhibah Run 2005, which received an encouraging respond from the public.
