Learn effective speech writing
skills at workshop

A two-day practical workshop on
"Speech Writing" will be held on September 20 and 21. Through the
workshop, participating speechwriters should learn to develop
effective speech writing skills for formal and informal functions.
The workshop will be conducted in
Malay and English, and led by Dato' Aidit bin Ghazali, the principal
consultant of Akedemi Aidit Shd Bhd, who has more than 20 years of
speech writing experience, both in the Malay and English languages.
There will be however, a second
speaker from Brunei who will be providing his inputs on the protocols
of speech drafting tailored to the Bruneian context and culture.
The types of speeches to be covered
during the workshop will be welcoming speeches, opening and closing of
function speeches, keynote addresses, acceptance of award speeches,
speeches in conjunction with major events, discussant's responses,
religious talks, sales talks, as well as counselling and advisory
speeches.
The workshop will also cover areas
such as "fine tuning contents of basic speeches", "traits of an
excellent speech writer", "speech writing: getting started the right
way", "common reasons for a weak draft speech" and "criteria for
effective speech evaluation".
During the workshop, participants
will also be required to draft a speech impromptu. The workshop -
which will be held at the Bunkers Meeting Room, Empire Hotel and
Country Club in Jerudong - should prove beneficial to speech writers,
policy makers, company directors and CEOs, senior level officers,
principals, dialogue drafters, translators, personal secretaries,
academicians, business technical writers, language officers and
interested members of the public.
