Baby alligator hunts for food on Cyprus sidewalk

Nicosia - A baby alligator was spotted scavenging for food on a busy Cyprus sidewalk, apparently after being smuggled onto the Mediterranean island and then abandoned.

"I took it home and put it in a tub of water and it recovered a bit, it looked like it had had a hard time," deputy head of the Limassol veterinary department Evangelos Evangelou told Reuters.

The carnivorous reptile was about 12 inches (30.48 cm) long. Alligators are native to the southern United States and can grow to up to 10 feet (3 metres) in length. -- Reuters
