All Set For Tehran Test

Bandar Seri Begawan - A flag handing over ceremony was held yesterday at Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex for the 13member Brunei contingent which will be taking part in the 4th omen's Islamic Games in.

Tehran, Iran from 22nd-28th September. Presenting the Brunei national flag to the Chef de Mission, Datin Dayang Hajah Zaliha binti Haji Mohiddin, was HRH Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam Olympic Committee.

According to Datin Dayang Hajah Zaliha, the Brunei contingent is made up of seven participants along with six officials including herself as the Chef de Mission.

Three will take part in taekwondo, three others in golf and one in the 200m for athletics.

This is Brunei's first participation in the competition but the Chef de Mission hoped that our athletes as well as officials will gain much knowledge from their participation and could use these experiences as a foundation to enhance women's sports in the country under the guidelines of Islam.

Meanwhile, HRH Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah in his speech said, "As we already know back in April, our country participated in the 1st Islamic Solidarity Games for Men in Saudi Arabia.

"Our participation in both these sports clearly indicates the country's intention of strengthening the understanding and relationship between the Islamic countries along with the country's commitment towards the aspiration of the establishment of an Islamic federation of nations."

HRH Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah said that based on successes and achievements of female athletes in past sporting championships, His Royal Highness hoped that our women athletes can put up a strong performance and achieve their best results in Tehran. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
