Information Depts Visits Mukim

Begawan - The Director of Information Hj Bujang Masu'ut
stressed on the importance and the need of Penghulus and longhouse
chiefs especially in the remote areas to instill and upgrade the
concept of team work spirit (beimuchang-muchang) in order to upgrade
the welfare and living standards of the community and not just
pointing fingers or wait for the government help to carry out the job.
This was highlighted by the Director
of Information at a meeting with Penghulus and Longhouse chiefs (Tuai
RumahPanjang) as well as MPK (Majlis Perundingan Kampong) or Villages
Consultative Committee and residents in the respective longhouse
during the two-day visit to Mukim Sukang in Ulu Belait.
A delegation of 35 officials from
various sections of the Information Department was led by Director of
Information Hj Bujang Masu'ut. The delegation included the Deputy
Director of Information Awg Amer Hamzah bin POKAP DSS Hj Zakaria.
Mukim
Sukang located in a remote area of the country is considered the lungs
of the country and in the past could only be visited by traditional
long boats and helicopter. Now it takes at least two hours to reach
the area from the main roads of Sg. Liang depending on the road and
weather conditions.
The delegation had the opportunity to
visit four longhouses in Mukiins Sukang located in the remote area of
Belait District.
Among the longhouses include long
houses of Penghulu Mukim Sukang, Datu Maharaja Setia Mohd Simpok bin
Datu Maharaja Setia Dian, Penan community head, Luyah anak Kaling,
Buau longhouse of Tuai Rumah Bundak Anak Ambas, Bang Taong of Tuai
Rumah Jawa AnakGalayan and longhouse of Biadong Ulu, Tuai Rumah,
LasitAnak Jeluing.
The visit was part of the Information
Department's initiativethrough the Department of Community Welfare to
disseminate information related to government's progress and
development to the people Iiving in the remote area.
It was also meant to share and hear
suggestions and problems faced by the people and residents at the
respectively long house.
The Director of Information said, it
was also part of the Information Department's Interpersonal
communication skills activity with communities not only in towns but
also in remote areas of the country.
The activity, he added is one of the
department's core business, The programme hoped to enhance the
experience of officers and staff of the department on the life and
development of all subjects and at the same time improve their
knowledge of the mukims and foster close relationship between the
government and village community as well as leaders.
It was also to upgrade the "Esprit De
Corps" and "teamwork" among participants. Another main objective of
the working visit to the remote areas was to encourage all the
officers to understand the basics of interpersonal communication
skills.
During the visit officials stayed
overnight at the multi-purpose hall and rest house of Mukim Sukang,
which was officially opened by HRH the Crown Prince during a visit to
the mukim last May. --
