Philippine Police Nab Accomplice
Of Illegal Recruiter
By Rosh Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Police in Zamboanga, Philippines have recently
detained a companion of an illegal recruiter who was arrested last
week for allegedly duping six people into handing over hefty
processing fees to take up jobs in Brunei.
The six were promised that they would
be working as salesladies in the Sultanate, but were left stranded in
the city instead.
The 35-year-old man was arrested on
Tuesday as police stepped up their operations to nab other
accomplices, Minda News reported.
The alleged illegal recruiters are
facing charges of violation of the Anti-Trafficking of Persons Act of
2003. Another collaborator was said to be still at large.
Last week, the Zamboangan police
rescued six victims, all from Metro Manila and Luzon areas, who were
recruited by the suspects with promises that they would be employed as
salesladies in Brunei.
Local employment agents, meanwhile,
advised jobseekers to only approach legal recruitment agencies to
avoid being cheated. --
