Minister Visits DST Group HQ

Begawan - The Minister of Communications Pehin Dato Haji Awang
Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong yesterday morning made an official visit to
the DST Group Headquarters in Tungku Link.
The visit was part of the
government's interest in the growth and development of private
business sector.
Upon his arrival, the minister was
welcomed by the Chairman of DST Group Dr Awang Hj Mohd Amin Liew bin
Abdullah, who is also the Managing Director of Brunei Investment
Agency.
Also present during the visit
yesterday were senior government officials, permanent secretaries and
DST Group officials.
The minister attended a briefing,
which was presented by the Chairman of DST Group. During the briefing,
the minister was also given an overview of DST Group and the current
GSM/GPRS/EDGE , technology.
Data Stream Technology of DST Group
was formed on April 1, 1995 in response to the call of His Majesty's
Government on privatisation programmes and has since established
itself as one of the nation's success stories towards government
diversification from oil and gas industry it is the backbone of the
DST Group.
It acts to strategically plan,
implement and - monitor and to give continuous support to all its
subsidiaries.
DST also acts as a network operator,
service and entertainment provider in the area of communications,
entertainment and retailing. On April 1, 1996, DST launched the 'GSM
system that heightened investments in mobile technology. While in June
2004, DST further launched GPRS/ EDGE technology services that offer
highspeed data services such as colour Internet browsing, e-mail on
the move, powerful visual communications, multimedia messages and
location based service.
The evolution of the GSM family or
wireless communications platformm is growing and advancing from
today's GSM which offers expanded and feature-rich family of voice and
data enabling services to GPRS - (General Packet Radio Service) and
EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) and in future 3G (Third
Generation).
The GSM family provides a flexible
platform and evolutionary path, which enables DST to offer a
potentially extensive range of value-added services to the
everchanging needs of thier esteemed customers.
The visit was also highlighted with a
souvenir presentation to the minister by the Chairman of DST Group.
The minister with other officials was
later brought to level 12 where the multipurpose hall is located.
The minister also visited the KRISTAL
and KRISTAL Astro office at level four, - followed by a tour of the
DST Care 151, DST Multimedia Sdn Bhd (Simpur) and Network Operation
Centre. --
