Royalty Distributes Ramadhan Dates

Begawan - In conjunction with the upcoming month of Ramadhan,
His Majesty and Yang-Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will once again
this year give 300-gramme packs of dates to all Muslims in the
country.
In his sabda, HRH Prince 'Abdul Malik
said Muslims in Brunei Darussalam will receive the dates, a personal
gift from His Majesty.
The prince initiated the distribution
of dates as a gift of His Majesty to the Muslims in the country for
the coming fasting month.
The dates are a private gift from the
Sultan to show his care for the citizens.
"As we all know, dates are one of the
foods eaten during the Ramadhan by the Islamic society for centuries,"
he added.
HRH Prince 'Abdul Malik hoped all the
dates would be distributed to their recipients properly as wished by
the Sultan.
"In response and to acknowledge His
Majesty's gifts, let us all pray to Allah S WT that His Majesty will
always be under the protection of Allah SWT and receive happiness in
this world and in Akhirat," HRH Prince `Abdul Malik added.
HRH Prince 'Abdul Malik handed out
the dates to the penghulus, village heads, and representatives of the
Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Ministry of Defence, Royal Brunei Police
Force throughout the country.
The dates will be distributed to all
Muslim subjects of His Majesty in Brunei Darussalam, who will each get
a 300-gramme pack of dates.
The dates are to be eaten during the
breaking of the fast in the month of Ramadhan.

Udana Khatib Dato Ustaz Haji Awg Badaruddin, Chairman of the Board of
Directors of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah said YSHHB had
secured from Saudi Arabia a three-year contract to supply dates from
this year until 2007.
The shipment of the dates from Saudi
Arabia took 20 days and used six chilled containers weighing 114
metric tonnes. Some 373, 666 packs of 300-gramme dates are to be
distributed, he added.
The launching ceremony for the
distribution of the dates donated by the Sultan was held yesterday at
the International Convention Centre. --
