Meaning Of Posters

Bandar Seri Begawan - Posters, including those that date back to 1965, are currently displayed at the Art Gallery of the Arts and Handicraft Centre as part of the activities organised during the current school holidays.

Jointly organised by the Arts Gallery and Museum Department's Education Service Unit and National Archives, the exhibition, which opened September 5, will run until the end of the month.

Some 83 posters have been selected for the exhibition, which include posters that commemorate national celebrations, language month, road safety campaign, anti-drug campaign, religious events and sporting events.

As paart of the school break's project, a screen-painting workshop is also conducted by three teachers from SMJA Secondary School, Aloysius Ho Boo Chiang, Zakaria Omar and Pg Roslan Pg Abu Bakar.

The objective of the exhibition and the workshop is to encourage understanding and awareness as well as appreciation for messages that can be conveyed by posters.

It is also aimed at displaying old posters at the National Archives and strengthening ties between students, teachers and personnel at the Museum Department.

The four-day workshop, which will end tomorrow, is participated by 35 students from SMJA Secondary School, Rimba Secondary School, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Secondary School, Sayyidina OmarAl-Khatab Secondary Schoo, Awang Semaun Secondary School, Pg Isteri Hjh. Mariam Secondary School, SOAS College and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation.

Art works produced by the students during the workshop will also be displayed at the exhibition along with other posters. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
