Belait Fire Victims Receive Cash Donation

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 52-year-old grandfather and ten family members who lost their home and over $20,000 worth of properties and important documents in an unfortunate fire mishap last Friday received cash donation at the Belait District Office yesterday morning.

Awg Abdullah bin Mintik @ Metassim received cash donation of $500 from the Environmental Disaster and Ehsan Fund Department of the Belait District Office.

The contribution was assist the victim and his family after the fire occurrence which totally destroyed the upper floor of their double-storey house at Kampong Melayu Ash, Kuala Belait.

Present to hand over the donation was Acting Belait District Officer, Awg Hj Mohamad bin Hj Abd Rahman.

The presentation was witnessed by Penghulu Mukim Belait, Awg Hj Pungut bin Mohd Ali; Ketua Kampong Pekan Kuala Belait, Awg Hj Johari bin Hj Omarli as well as officials and staff of Belait District Office.

Awg Abdullah who is currently staying with his relatives expressed relief that no one including his grandchildren who were in the house when the fire occurred was injured.

The ground floor of his house, which he rented out, was unaffected by the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
