By Malai Hassan Othman

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Registrar of Societies (R.O.S) has approved the application of a new political party, National Development Party (NDP), and has registered it as a legal political party in Brunei effective August 31, 2005, announced NDP in its press statement.

NDP is a new addition to the fast changing political landscape of the country that saw in recent time the reinstatement of the suspended Legislative Council and consequently the appointments of several public figures to sit as people's representatives in the Council.

NDP in its statement expressed its gratitude to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan ofNegara Brunei Darussalam, and his Government, especially the Registrar of Societies for giving due consideration to its application and subsequently to make it a legitimate political organisation in the country.

NDP is headed by Awang Muhammad Yasin binAbdul Rahman @YasinAfandy, the President of NDP's Pro-Tem Supreme Council.

Mahmud Morshidi bin Awang Othman is the Deputy President of the party while Awang Haji Aminorashid Haji Ghazali is its Secretary General.

Among other key persons in the line up of its Pro-Tem Supreme Council are Awang Haji Umar bin Awang Tamin as Vice President for Brunei-Muara District, Awang Sulaiman bin Metarsad as Vice President for Seria and Belait District, Awang Haji Hanafi bin Md Daud as Vice President for Tutong District and Awang Haji Ibrahim bin Haji Jumat as Vice President for Tutong District.

NDP said it would soon launch its Constitution and to be followed by the launch of the party's Manifesto.

God willing, the First General Congress and the official launching of the National Development Party will be held.

All these dates will be announced later, stated Awang Haji Aminorashid Haji Ghazali, the Pro-Tem Secretary General of NDP.

He said the Pro-Tem Supreme Council would be dissolved at the first General Congress in order to give way for voting or election of new leaders of the party.

However, only registered members may vote for or be elected as leaders, he said adding that the elected members of the Supreme Council would then lead and manage the affairs of the party for the next three years. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
