Two Foreigners Jailed For Immigration Offences

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two foreign nationals were brought before the Magistrate's Court yesterday for violating the Immigration Act.

Indian Natesan Gunasegaran, 37, was fined $800 or two months in prison in default after pleading guilty to possessing a forged employment pass.

He reported himself to the Enforcement section at the Immigration department on June 23, this year to inquire about his employment pass, which was found by the officer there to have been forged. The ddferidar t was arrested.

The defendant admitted that he had given his passport to an Indian man named Hameed with a sum of $150 to get an extension of his pass for up to three months illegally.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Sugani Lestari was jailed two weeks after she admitted to failing to produce her passport upon leaving the country.

The Immigration prosecuting officer yesterday revealed in court that Immigration officers on duty at the Kuala Lurah Control Post checked the defendant's passport upon her arrival on August 28 and found that she had committed the offence. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
