Education In Brunei

Begawan - Effective strategic ideas and objectives for all
academic institutions, colleges and schools are crucial.
This was said by Pehin Dato Seri
Setia Haji AwangAbdul Rahman bin Dato Setia i Ij Mohamed Taib,
Minister of Education, as the guest of honour during the launching of
the 3-day strategic planning workshop for Heads of Departments of the
Ministry of Education. The event was held at the Chancellor Hall,
Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
The workshop is jointly organised by
the Ministry of Education and UBD and aims to revisit the current
strategic planning for the Ministry, while planning for the future.
This is the second time the ministry has held such a programme. The
first workshop was held in October 2003.
The workshop is divided into 11
sessions. Among the main topics to be discussed are "Strategic
Planning - Management and implementation Perspective" and "New System
of Education and New Direction for the 21y' Century ".
The minister added that high quality
early education and childcare for every child is crucial in order to
further improve the standards of existing secondary education and
transform the school workforce, which currently focuses on core
teachers.
He stressed the need to reform
further education and training and to strengthen and support
excellence in higher education by improving access and participation.
The workshop aims to provide children
with an excellent start in education for a better foundation in future
learning, enabling all young people to develop and to equip themselves
with the skills, knowledge and personal qualities needed for life and
work. It also hopes to encourage and enable adults to learn, improve
their skills and enrich their lives.
The minister said, "A new mandate is
needed in order to improve and move forward through assessing the main
issues and creating effective measures."
The workshop focuses for the
country's desire to achieve development in every aspect to be on par
with neighbouring countries.
Also present at the workshop were the
senior government officials of the ministry of education. --
