Festival Woo Temburong Natives

Temburong - Over 3,000 people gathered at the Padang Complex Dewan Kemasyarakatan Bangar Temburong on the evening of September 9 for the Borneo Carnival, organised by the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Temburong Tourism of the Temburong District Office and Temburong Scouts Federation.

Present as the chief guest was Temburong District Officer PgAbd Harris bin Pg Hj Shabuddin. Also in attendance were residents of Limbang and district officer of Lawas.

The event began with a welcoming speech by Assistant District Officer and chairperson of the carnival Awg Metussin bin OKS Haji Tuba. It was followed by music and dance performances by local artistes.

Foreign artistes such as Nash, Willson, Stella Philip, Siti Nurdiana and Bob of Akademi Fantasia 2 also performed at the carnival, wooing the crowd with their onstage presence.

Group Anak Anank Peranakan Brunei Papar also made an appearance as a cultural show.

There were also stalls displaying handicrafts and traditional cakes such as buahulu and ardam.

The following morning, Pg Abd Harris launched the Traditional Food Festival, which was attended by heads of department in the district, penghulus, village chiefs as well as Temburong residents.

The Temburong District Officer later toured the stalls, accompanied by the committee members of the festival.

Several government agencies including the Anti Corruption Bureau, Narcotics Control Bureau and Federation of Kedayan Tutong presented demonstrations to visitors.

Meanwhile, the Radio Television Brunei (RTB) did a live telecast of the festival on the Rampai Pagi. According to the organiser, the event attracted more than 400 people. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
