Qari, Qariah Set For Quran Contest In KL

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei will participate in the 471 international Quran Reading Contest in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, which begins today until September 17.

Two locals who won the national level Al-Quran reading contest last August -Awang Haji Ismail bin Haji Sulairnan and Dayang Siti Huzaimah Yadey binte Haji Rosli - will represent the country for the competition.

The duo is led by Dr Andas Haji Mirwan bin Haji Mohd Noh Batubara, an officer at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Meanwhile, Director of Syariah Affairs Ustaz Awang Haji Mohd Zaimi bin Haji Talip is invited to be present at the competition as a judge.

Present to bid farewell to the delegation at the Brunei International Airport were Acting Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Dato Haji Awang Badaruddin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Dato HajiAwang Abdul Rahman, and other officials at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The participation in the contest is aimed at providing the representatives with exposure and experience while motivating them to improve their performances for future events.

Other objectives include producing skilled Qari and Qariah in all aspects of Al-Quran reading at international level, which is in line with the country's vision. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
