Leaders Visit Youth Bodies In
Malaysia
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Ten youth leaders left for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Friday to visit- the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) to build up rapport
and relationships.
Led by Pg Hj Suhaimi Pg Wahid and Hj
Osman BPSKDSS HJ Tamin of the Brunei Darussalam Youth Council (MBB),
the delegation included leaders of Brunei-Muara Youth Council, Belait
Youth Council, Tutong Youth Council and Temburong Youth Council.
Pg HJ Suhaimi, the MBB Deputy
President, said they will be spending three days in Kelantan and five
days in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
He said the visit is meant to expose
the leaders on ways to motivate youths in promoting peace and
stability in the face present challenges.
"The main question is where and how
do our youths fit in the overall current scenario and the roles they
could play.
How can our youths exercise their
influence in the interest of regional and global peace given the
challenges that prevail?" he said.
The visit should help youth leaders
gain experience by learning motivation processes from youth
organisations in Kelantan, Selangor and the Federal Territory, he
said.
"We shall visit the youth council of
Kelantan because it has visited Brunei Darussalam three times," he
said.
The leaders would be finding answers
why youths are shying away from youth organisations and strategic
approaches in youth development.
"Youths could not be forced to become
members of any association because they have their own, interests and
that they were free to make their choices.
"But this should not stop youth
bodies from making a self-assessment of their activities and offer
programmes like entrepreneurship, sports, silat and volunteerism that
could encourage youths to join them.
"This is what we want to find out.
How youth associations could attract the young people. We need to
attract the younger generation to become youth leaders of the future,"
he said. --
