Civil Service To Cut Down On The
Waste
By Laila Rahman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Based on the research made by the Civil Service
Institute's training officers a few years ago, it was found that in
just three months, resources had been wasted due to a lack of
participants for a particular course.
The course, which involved bringing
in consultants into the Sultanate and was part of a series, cost about
$80,000.
This was disclosed during a Six-Sigma
Seminar at the Civil Service Institute by its Director, DrAzaharaini
Hj Mohd Jamil, in his welcoming remarks.
Specially held for the heads of
government departments and senior officers, the objective of the event
was to introduce the course's contents.
He added that due to the
inefficiency, _the institute will identify new methods or strategies
to ensure that it would not - happen again and make the course more
worthwhile in the future.
Working towards this aim, a proposal
has been made whereby a ministry has to commit itself to the course
for managing or solving problems beforehand.
Dr Azaharaini also mentioned that the
waste of resources occurred as participants were not that interested
and rather forced to attend the course.
Knowledge and skills gained therefore
were only at a minimal level. He concluded his speech by welcoming any
opinions from the ministries and departments on improving partnership,
training and team-based projects, as part of the institute's objective
is to assist them.
The guest speaker for the seminar
meanwhile was Mr Lim Yu Been, a consultant from Singapore, who
discussed the different aspects of Six-Sigma. --
