Lambak
Kanan Residents Cry Foul Over Indiscriminate Dumping
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A bush near the Lambak Kanan Mosque at Perumahan
Lambak Kanan in Berakas has been turned into a dumping ground by
litterbugs.
Penghulu
of Mukim Berakas B, Hj Ismail Apong, urged those who are responsible
not to throw their garbage indiscriminately. "Let us keep our village
clean as the habit of littering could create health problems and
hygienic issues for all of us staying in the area," he said.
A resident said, "It is a mess. The
whole place needs to be cleaned up."
Another resident suggested that
suitable garbage disposal points should be made available for
residents in the area so they could dispose their rubbish properly.
Residents in the area said they can
opt for their rubbish to be collected by private disposal companies by
paying a certain fee monthly.
"However, some of us here want to
save money by disposing their rubbish themselves. They do so at
specified locations which are quite far away from here.
For some people, the disposal points
are too much of a journey that they find it more convenient to throw
their rubbish at the lush bush nearby.
"This has got to stop if people want
to conserve and protect the environment for the sake of our children
and the future generations,"they said. --
