National Workshop On R & D Indicators

Bandar Seri Begawan - A National workshop on Research and Experimental Development (R & D) indicators in Science and Technology organised by the Research and Development Unit of the Ministry of Development is currently being conducted at the Riverview Hotel till September 10.

The 5-day event was officially opened by the guest of honour, Awang Hj Mohd Said POKPS Dato Paduka Haji Hashim, Permanent Secretary (Technical and Professional) at the Ministry of Development (MOD).

The workshop is chaired by Awang Eddie Dato Paduka Haji Sunny, the acting head of the Research and Development Unit, MOD.

It is jointly conducted by Professor Gunnar Westholm, a regional technical consultant with experience in developing international S & T indicators and Dr Tan Kha Sheng, a technical consultant on R & D indicators from Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Some 30 officers from various government ministries and departments participated in the event.

Among the aims of this workshop are to provide the government with a status report of R & D in science, technology and innovation capacity and to establish a set of `benchmark' indicators for monitoring and evaluating the progress of science and technology in Brunei Darussalam in the context of national development plans and industry diversifications. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
