Basic Orientation Course For
Overseas Filipino Workers

Begawan - The first session of the Basic Orientation Course for
Overseas Filipino Workers was held at the Philippine Embassy Chancery
last Sunday with the embassy's Labour Attache, Aida Estabillo, and
Welfare Officer, Ma. Victoria Demingoy as the speakers.
Scheduled to be held for six
consecutive Sunday afternoons, the Basic Orientation Course is aimed
at informing Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) on Brunei's labour and
immigration laws and addressing the medical and legal concerns of OFWs.
The course also hopes to familiarise
them with the embassy's consular, labour, "welfare, SSS and PAG-IBIG
services.
Throughout the course, the OFWs would
also have the opportunity to interact with officials from the embassy
and the various authorities concerned.
In her opening remarks, Philippine
Ambassador, Ms Virginia H. Benavidez said the embassy has embarked on
the project in line with the great importance placed by the Philippine
Government on overseas Filipino workers and their welfare abroad. She
said providing assistance to nationals is a key pillar of the
Philippine foreign policy.
She hopes more Filipinos in Brunei
would join the course in the coming Sundays.
Dr David Colin Reynolds of the
Riverview Clinic will be the guest speaker for the Sept 11 session
while Daljit Singh Sandhu of Sandhu & Co will speak at the Sept 18
session. Representatives from the Immigration and Labour Department of
Brunei have also been invited for the succeeding Sundays. --
