UBD Lecturer Among Panellists At
Malaysian National Literature Day

Begawan - A Universiti Brunei Darussalam lecturer, Mohd Zefri
Arif, who is currently pursuing a doctorate at Universiti Malaya (UM)
in Kuala Lumpur, continues to be a key figure in Malay literature for
the region.
He was appointed to a forum panel at
the 13t" Malaysian National Literature Day held in Ipoh, Perak last
September 2 to 4.
A total of six forums were held at
the Hotel Casuarina in Ipoh, Perak namely `Royalty in the Malay
World', `Royalty and Malay World Personality', `Literature Tradition:
The Peaks of Latest Malay Letters in the Region', `Reading the Future
of Malay Literature in Malaysia and Malay World' and .`Building World
Literature and Heritage in Perak'.
Organised
by the Malaysian National Writers Association (GAPENA), the event was
themed Royalty and National Letters or Literature.
The forums were chaired respectively
by Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Ismail Hussein (Head 1 of GAPENA), Datuk A.
Aziz Deraman (former Director of Malaysian Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka),
Abdul Rahman Yusof (Director of Literature Department of DBP
Malaysia), Prof. Madya Zainal Abidin Borhan (GAPENA), Prof. Madya Dr.
Hashim Ismail (GAPENA); and Perak State Government Exco Datuk Dr
Zambry Abdul Kadir.
Apart from Mohd Zefri, other forum
panels included intellectuals and language experts from Malaysia,
Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.
Since his further study at UM
commencing last year, Mohd Zefri had been invited to deliver working
papers at various literature activities.
Mohd
Zefri is one of Sultanate's renowned literature activists mainly in
the genre of theatre and drama.
He was Brunei Darussalam's recipient
for Hadiah Sastera Mastera in 2003, a recognition given to regional
literati by Malaysia every two years. --
