Asean Business Summit
By Izam S. Ya'akub
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The East Asean Business Summit is set to welcome a
wide range of leading figures from the region's government, business
and key organisations at The Mall in Gadong from September 19 to 20.
In addition to the ministers who will
be delivering keynote addresses at the summit, representatives from
the Asian Development Bank and the Asean Secretariat have confirmed
that they will also be sharing their views on the potentials of the
East Asean region.
The organisations that aid BIMP-EAGA
in many ways known as GTZ (German Technical Cooperation) will also be
represented at the summit.
The business chambers from the
neighbouring regions will also be sending representatives from
Indonesia, delegates from Kadin (Indonesia's largest Chamber of
Commerce) from North Sulawesi, East Kalimantan and west Kalimantan
will be in attendance.
The Malaysian International Chamber
of Commerce and Industry will have delegates from Sarawak, Sabah and
Labuan.
Meanwhile, Australia's Northern
Territory is looking forward to using the East Asean Business Summit
and the BIMP-EAGA meetings as an opportunity to enhance ties with the
BIMP-EAGA region.
A delegation from the Northern
Territory will be led by Chief Minister Clare Martin who will be
providing key insights into business opportunities between both
Bruneiand the Northern Territory and the EAGA region as a whole.
Brunei is closely connected to the
Northern Territory - with regular flights from the Sultanate to Darwin
on Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) providing a gateway to the East Asean
region through Bandar Seri Begawan.
Representatives from the Northern
Territory's International Chamber of Commerce and Industry will also
be attending the business summit and are eager to meet with Brunei
business bodies who may be interested in establishing links with them.
The East Asean Business summit is
partnered by leading corporations in Brunei, namely Total, Brunei LNG,
HSBC, DST Group, Bearing Point and RBA being the official airline.
The summit will provide opportunities
for local businesses to find out what prospects there are in the
neighbouring countries. It also looks to be an avenue for networking
possibilities for overseas businesses who are interested in exploring
what businesses are on hand in Brunei.
