Medical Lecture At UBD

Begawan - The Institute of Medicine, Universiti Brunei
Darussalam (UBD) will be holding a Medical Lecture on the topic
"Development of Pre-Hospital Medical Care" tomorrow, Sept. 7, at the
Lecture Theatre, Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam from
7pm until 9pm. The guest speaker will be Major (Dr.) Phillip Carter,
Medical Officer for the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Medical Services,
Ministry of Defence.
Major (Dr.) Carter joined the British
Army during his time at medical school after which he began his career
as an at my doctor. He held several posts including Senior House
Officer in Accident and Emergency and Paediatrics as well as military
posts supporting internal security and counterterrorist operations in
Northern Ireland. He also provided medical support to a small British
detachment in the Antarctic as well as occupational and primary care
support to a frontline British Army unit equipped with main battle
tanks - all whilst flexibly training in General Practice.
Major (Dr.) Carter is a member ofthe
British Association for Immediate Care and the Faculty of Pre-Hospital
Care of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Since qualifying as a GP he has been
deployed with British Army units to Kosovo and Iraq where he has
provided primary, occupational and emergency medical care to British
troops, foreign forces and local civilians. Major (Dr.) Carter passed
the Membership examination for the Royal College of General
Practitioners in 2002.
Currently he is working as a Medical
Officer on Loan Service in Brunei combining primary and occupational
health care duties with service development activity as the Royal
Brunei Armed Forces Medical Service expands its role into
international disaster and humanitarian relief.
Tomorrow's lecture is part of a
series of lectures organised by the Institute of Medicine to support
its philosophy of being a socially responsible institution and to
promote lifelong learning for the people of Brunei Darussalam.
