Witty VJ Denise Charms Crowd At The Mall

Bandar Seri Begawan - Beautiful, fun and witty are three words that can describe the popular VJ on MTV Asia, VJ Denise, who was in the Sultanate for the very first time, courtesy of b.mobile for its launching exhibition held at The Mall in Gadong.

VJ Denise arrived in Brunei on Saturday night to be the master of ceremonies for the third day of activities of b.mobile's launching exhibition yesterday, one of the main attractions at yesterday's events.

In an interview with the Bulletin, VJ Denise said that she was most impressed with the warmth and kindness of the people of Brunei.

She hoped to come back as the Sultanate was an ideal location for a private holiday.

Being the only VJ with MTV at this point in time regionally, Denise revealed how hectic her life is, with travelling all over the region for MTV events and juggling from one show to the other.

Indeed, VJ Denise was the appropriate choice as MC for yesterday's activities as she is known for her love of gadgets, with the Treo 650 Palm being one of her most recent purchases.

In terms of 3G services, VJ Denise said that she even uses her 3Gmobile for a reality show and that every time a fan would send her a SMS she could use her 3G mobile to immediately text back online or on the phone, "so everywhere I went, I could be in touch with my fans, which is great".

Denise described her mobile phone as a "life necessity", as she spends so much time travelling and her phone was the only means of communication to keep in touch with her family and friends.

Showing her down-to-earth nature, Denise said how success from a young age had not really changed anything, because "as long as you're grounded, and thanks to my family, mother in Singapore and my sister in New York", who has taught her to be strong.

"Fame is just another four letter word and it hasn't really changed my personal life. On MTV I change everyday, one minute I'm a rock chick next I'm a hip-hop girl - that's the only inconsistent thing in my life," Denise added.

When asked what it takes to be an MTV VJ, Denise emphasised on being fun, whereby "you've got to have a lot of fun with life, love music and know your music. If you know all of that, then you're made to be."

VJ Denise went on to talk about her other projects which she is involved in at the moment which included filming a music video in Singapore for a local band where she would be performing as a lead dancer. She will also be busy with a. fashion programme that is coming up towards the end of the year in Singapore.

The VJ also revealed that she might be making her acting debut in an Indonesian movie next year.

When asked if she has any other unfulfilled ambitions that she would like to achieve, Denise replied enthusiastically, "I want to be a rock star! I've always wanted to be a rock star.

"In terms of music, I definitely want to give it a try and am currently taking singing lessons," she continued.

Wrapping up the interview, VJ Denise gave words of encouragement to those who'd like to venture into the entertainment business by saying, "First of all be yourself, and don't let go of being yourself because if you do, and let fame go to your head, you go somewhere else and that's not encouraging.
