UBD Holds Israk Mikraj, Khatam Al-Quran

Bandar Seri Begawan - Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) held a ceremony on Saturday evening to commemorate Israk Mikraj, one of Islam's biggest religious events, as well as a thanksgiving prayer for the university's 17th convocation ceremony.

There was also a Khatam al-Quran ceremony for about 400 final year undergraduates who recently completed the reading of the holy al-Quran, where they have been undergoing weekly al-Quran readings throughout their semesters at UBD.

The event was held at UBD Mosque. Present as the guest of honour was Minister of Education Pehin Dato Awg Haji Abd Rahman.

Also present were UBD Vice-Chancellor Dato Paduka Dr Hj Ismail bin Hj Duraman, faculty deans, lecturers, students and parents.

The Khatam al-Quran ceremony is an annual programme of the university as a culmination event for the Quran reading guidance scheme. Over 20 undergraduates who participated in the scheme were presented with certificates. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
