September Is Healthy Heart Month

Bandar Seri Begawan - The ‘Healthy Heart Month', which is being held in conjunction with the upcoming World Heart Day, was officially launched by Minister of Health Pehin Dato Awg Hj Suyoi Hj Osman yesterday at the Gleneagles Jerudong Park Medical Centre.

The programme is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Health and Gleneagles Jerudong Park Medical Centre Sdn Bhd.

Also present during the launching ceremony were JPMC CEO Pg Kerma Diraja Pg Hj Kamarulzaman Pg Pekerma Setia Diraja Sahibul Bandar Pg Hj Ali; Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Dato Paduka Awg Hj Dani Hj Ibrahim; and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Dato Paduka Serbini Ali.

A line up of activities such as a poster exhibition, health screening for the public as well as continuing medical education were held yesterday.

Meanwhile, several other activities have been planned to mark World Heart Day which will fall on September 25.

This year, the theme is "Healthy Weight, Healthy Shape". Dr Hjh Norlila Dato Paduka Hi Abd Jalil said that the theme was chosen to highlight the importance of maintaining healthy weight in order to maintain the health of one's heart and cardiovascular system, thus, preventing heart disease.

She said that there would be health screenings and talks for the public at various locations.

There would also be a road show for the poster exhibition, which would be held at every government hospital throughout the country.

The highlight of `Healthy Heart Month' will be an exciting line up of activities, which will be held at the Jerudong Park and Country Club on the actual day of World Heart Day.

There would be jogathons, walkathons, aerobics, colouring competitions, outdoor exhibitions, bouncers for children as well as lucky draws.

The activities are being held for the benefit of the whole community. All are welcome to participate in all the activities and events, which are aimed at increasing awareness on heart disease and to improve cardiac health of the public. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
